My picnic spot was taken again this weekend. It's happened before- no tables, no shade. All the way across town and nowhere to go. You'd think with all my planning I would have a backup plan but sometimes when I am feeling risky one plan will do.
While I was turning around in the parking lot lil' D asked why we couldn't just join the birthday party. He feels welcome no matter where he goes.
"No, we can go somewhere else" I replied.
"Where?"
"I don't know. It will be an adventure!"
"What's an adventure?"
Oh, to know what to say! I did my best to explain that adventure is like exploring or doing something new and you don't know what its going to be like. I punctuated my stammering explanation by repeating the words FUN and EXCITING after every sentence.
When we started driving away from the park the girls in the back pulled out their earbuds and wanted to know where we going.
"To adventure!" Lil' D replied.
My gut told me that we needed to eat soon but also that there were bound to be more picnic tables down the road. There was a playground three miles down the road that had everything we needed- table in the shade, a tire swing and toilets. Another formerly unknown park discovered and added to the map. Fun and exciting. Amen.
Maybe we really are explorers after all.

I have actually been at a park with lil' D when he ate pizza from a birthday party happening there. I think he at least asked first..
