Today I got a text message from my phone company reporting to me that the balance had been paid. This was like a little song, such beautiful words and melody! The way the cell phone bill gets paid in my family is not something I would recommend to others. Others might say its more dysfunctional than functional but thats kinda the way we roll.

When we kids took up residence away from home we began our own family plan. The eldest sibling paid for all the costs. Sometimes he collected though not always.

Upon moving away, he wrote down all the account information- passwords and logins on a piece of paper that I received unceremoniously though it seemed to be a little certificate of adulthood. Here, you are responsible, it read. Through minutes and phones run over I paid the bill, occasionally getting a donation from the younger siblings but mostly not. This year I passed on the passwords and logins to the next in line. She paid the bill and the text message came through. The love gets past on.

I know this method of bill pay would drive some apart/crazy but it seems to make us hold a little tighter.
