Grandpa took us to pick grapefruit when we visited over the holidays. He is very fluent in the ways of grapefruit from his years of work researching them. Now in his retirement he has been working with grapes. Different though the names are quite similar. I find picking grapefruit very interesting. And by interesting I mean captivatingly enjoyable.
Each breakfast at home begins with grapefruit and it takes me longest to process it. I am always the last one scraping out the juicy pulp at the table. The rest of the family has already moved on to scooping applesauce and pouring milk on their toast by the time I get half way the fruit. Because I might be a little competitive and because I want part of the quickly disappearing applesauce supply, I have taken scooping mine into my bowl before everyone gets to breakfast table.
[How's that for an update on my life? In news other than how I eat my grapefruit...
Things are going well here at the farm- two new high tunnels are all finished-finally! We have been working on them for sometime now and its been quite the process with all the welding (not me), painting (mostly me) and drilling (sometime me). One is heated so I guess it would be technically called a greenhouse. It is so warm and cozy inside.
Yesterday Luke mixed his dirt recipe and made dirt blocks while I planted seeds into the dirt blocks. Thus far, 3 kinds of cabbage, parsley, 2 types of celery, basil, asparagus, and artichokes have been planted. I never knew celery seeds were so tiny.
Dealing with the move is getting easier for sure but I have to remind myself often that my parents don't try control me so I shouldn't try control them. They put up with me so well.]

The next time you get your apple sauce, put an extra scoop in for me.
I'm a really slow grapefruit processor too. Your planting description makes me miss landscape services a little bit, and all our greenhouse planting marathons. :)
They make grapefruit in Florida too.
